Drivers gear up for Spring Fling at Arrowhead
SPRING, Texas (June 20, 2024) — After the originally-planned date of May 31 was washed out by persistent rains, conditions are good this time around for an appropriately renamed “End of Spring Fling” program this Friday night at the beautiful Arrowhead Speedway in Colcord, Oklahoma.
Summers Well Drilling and Pumps USRA Stock Cars take center stage in a unique format, as teams compete for $2,500-to-win in a Gold Feature; $1,500-to-win in a Silver Feature; and $500-to-win in a Bronze Feature (if needed). That’s not one, not two, but three chances at decent money on Friday night.
Thirty-nine drivers had preregistered as of 3 p.m. CST on Thursday, with that entry list reading more like a who’s who among active Stock Car teams. This venue has already become a favorite among teams and fans across the Southern Plains. The racing surface and facility itself are both world class.

Blake Clark is one of the Texas-based racers on the entry list, and is hot off a win last Saturday at KSP. In 22 starts this year, he’s earned four wins, nine top-five and 12 top-10 finishes.
“We have a new Sniper Speed car now, and our first race last March at Arrowhead was the first time I’d dver riven it,” Clark explained. “It could have gone a lot better, I’ll just leave it at that. But we’ve learned a ton about the car now, thanks to help from Jeffrey Abbey.
“Having him do all of our shocks now and guide us with the setup in this car has been priceless. We wouldn’t have gotten to where we are with it without his knowledge. I’ll thank him now for saving me a lot of trial and error. I feel like we’ll have a much better chance at success there this Friday night.”
Shelby Williams is another of the Texas racers headed for Arrowhead and is preparing his car for battle. He’s done well, with three wins, 11 top-five and 22 top-10 finishes to his credit in 28 starts in 2024.
“So far, this has been a tough year for us,” Williams said. “Learning a new car and new ride height rules has been a challenge. We have been fast all year, but our luck has not been good. We should have around 10 wins at this point, yet we only have three to show for our work.
“It’s not for a lack of effort, I assure you. We keep moving forward, and tackling every object we face head-on. I feel pretty good about this weekend with my old car, since it’s still on the same rules as last year. The car’s always been good; we just need to make the right changes, and the driver does his part.”
Donald Fetty is another North Texas driver hoping for a strong run in Friday’s End of Spring Fling.
“Our season has been going really well,” Fetty said. “We’ve had three top-five and eight top-10 finishes in 10 starts so far. The car has been very reliable; I’ve been doing some tweaking to improve the setup. It’s our second year with this chassis, but last year we really didn’t get to put many races on it.
“I’ve finally begun to get it dialed in to my liking now. We set it up with a solid baseline to start the year, looked at how it was handling then started making minor changes from there. I think we’ll have a shot at making the Gold feature on Friday night, that’s our ultimate goal. We’ll see what happens next.”
Hot Laps for Friday night’s End of Spring Fling program at Arrowhead Speedway will get under way at 7:30 p.m., with racing to follow at 8 p.m. on the immaculate oval.
