Who will be King? King of the Hill Preview

This weekend, August 15th-17th, Greenwood, Louisiana will host the biggest factory stock event of the year. The 10th Annual King of The Hill is scheduled to go down at the legendary Boothill Speedway. In 2015, then promoters Jason Ingalls and Travis Evans created this iconic event that has blossomed into the most prestigious USRA Factory Stock race in the country.

Six different drivers have reigned supreme in the nine year history of the event. Victors include Marcus Caudle the original King, followed by Taylor Carver, Derick Grigsby, Kyle Cummings, Three-time King Justin Whitehead, as well as Two-time and defending King, Neil Kemp.

If you look at that list, and know much about USRA Factory Stocks, you probably instantly think of a specific name that is not on the list – Dalton Faulkner. Faulkner will roll into the Boothill Speedway as the heavy favorite to be the next King. Faulkner has already picked up victories at the Battle of Boothill and the Mike Parker Memorial in 2024. Those two wins alone total $15,015 in prize money. Yet, the $10,000 to win King of The Hill has alluded the #27 from Cut and Shoot, Texas.

In 2021, Faulkner finished second to Kyle Cummings, while in 2022, #27 was scheduled to start ninth but broke during the pace laps. The year 2023 saw Dalton finish fifth. Can 2024 be the year Faulkner can finally sit atop the Throne? The other Kings will have something to say about it – Justin Whitehead, Neil Kemp, and Kyle Cummings will all be hunting for another $10,000 payday.

This past weekend in the Arklatex region saw Tracy Denby Jr win at Sabine Speedway and CJ Howell win at Ark-La-Tex Speedway. Those two drivers will have confidence on their side as they roll into the oldest operating dirt oval in the state of Louisiana.

Thursday night is practice and time trial night with prize money up for the top three quickest factory stocks.

Friday’s racing action will involve two sets of USRA passing points heat races for the USRA Factory Stocks that will result in the top four drivers being locked in on Friday night. The rest of the drivers will have to fight on Saturday night for the remaining starting spots in the 10th Edition of the event.
